Scholarship Opportunities for Local Kids!

The 2nd Annual ‘A Team’ Scholarship program has officially launched at area schools!

At the close of the '09/'10 school year, the bank will award four $1,000 Scholarships to local students who earn good grades. In support of local educators, Blackhawk Bank will also award $500 to the school with the largest number of student entries.

Each full grading period (mid-terms not included) every Report Card A+ / A / A- that a student earns entitles him or her to enter for a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship to be used for post high school education.

The scholarships will be awarded to one student from each market that Blackhawk Bank serves:
Beloit, WI
Roscoe/Machesney Park, IL
Belvidere/Capron, IL
Rockford, IL

Any student old enough to earn A grades through senior high school is eligible to enter. Students accompanied by a parent or legal guardian must bring their report card and proper identification including their Social Security Card or Tax ID to the Blackhawk Bank office nearest their home address.

“Our scholarship program is just one of many Blackhawk Bank initiatives that support students and teachers, and we’re extremely pleased to extend this opportunity to local kids,” said Dave Adkins, VP of Consumer Banking. “We've planned a program that encourages academic excellence and gives teachers a tool to help motivate every student in their classroom.  These four $1,000 scholarships aren’t just for the highest achievers; they’re rewards that every student who’s old enough to earn an A is eligible for.”

Winners’ funds are invested in a Blackhawk Bank Education IRA or a 529 College Plan through the investment centers located inside three of Blackhawk’s offices.  The funds may be used for future expenses at an accredited technical school or college.  If a winner is a high school senior, the funds will be issued to the school he or she plans to attend.  Students and their parents or legal guardians do not have to be Blackhawk Bank customers to enter.

The scholarship program is one of many Blackhawk Bank initiatives that support local students and teachers.  The bank conducts financial education classes for youth and adults and is an annual sponsor of the Golden Apple Foundation of Boone and Winnebago County.  The bank also conducts an annual school supply drive and its associates routinely volunteer their help at local schools.
